Context

Western Sydney Airport is currently seeking financing for developments within the airport land. Specifically, funding is sought for the Business Precinct Stage 7 and Cargo facility. As part of this process, Equator Principles Financial Institutions adopt the Equator Principles to serve as a common baseline and framework for financial institutions to identify, assess and manage environmental and social risks when financing projects.

The challenge

Circulr were engaged to assist Western Sydney Airport with an independent desktop review of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport’s environmental and social performance against the Equator Principles.

The solution

We undertook an independent desktop review of Western Sydney International Airport’s environmental and social performance against the Equator Principles.
We assessed the conformance of the Project’s environmental, sustainability and social management systems, policies, plans, reports and audits with the Equator Principles.
We provided an independent review report.

Outcomes

Western Sydney Airport was shown to demonstrate a commitment to environmental and social excellence through the environmental assessment of their developments, and maintenance of environmental sustainability systems which stem consistently from policy level down to site level, including implementation through suppliers. Finance was obtained and senior leadership commended the review.
